The Provo River Parkway is a paved, multi-use pathway suited to walkers and joggers, bicyclists and in-line skaters. The Parkway follows the Provo River for 15 miles from Utah Lake State Park to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon. Except for a couple of short, steep climbs, the path is a relatively easy ride even for small children. However, because it is so popular and in places somewhat crowded, good bike and skating control is a must. Slow down and share the trail.
Parkway Bridge in Central Provo Between Utah Lake and the mouth of Provo Canyon, the path is 8-10 feet wide and nearly flat most of the way. Once in the canyon the path widens to 16 feet, and rises a little more steeply. The Parkway is great for getting around Provo without using a car. Biking or walking to work, to the store, or to school are common uses. The Parkway intersects with the College Connector Trail in town, and up the canyon meets the Great Western Trail at Canyon Glen Park, and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail at Bridal Veil Falls Park. A popular route for aerobic workouts starts at the trailhead on 800 North in Orem and winds its way up to Bridal Veil Falls and Vivian Park, about 7 miles in length. For a more relaxing outing you can start at Vivian Park and coast all the way down the canyon.
The Parkway Heading Up Provo Canyon There are frequent access points along the pathway within Provo and at the many parks up Provo Canyon. All common services are at hand within the city of Provo, and water, restrooms, and picnic areas are available at the numerous city and county parks located all along the route. (Generally open from April through October.)
