After a thorough recruitment process that saw over 60 applications from across the country, the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) Executive Council selected Andrew K. Jackson as their new Executive Director on Thursday, December 3rd. Jackson replaces Darrell Cook, who is retiring after 37 years at Mountainland. The Executive Council is made up of every mayor in Summit, Utah, and Wasatch Counties, and three commissioners or council members from each of the counties.
Jackson will be acting as the Interim Director until the new Executive Council is seated next year and can ratify the action. "We had such a high turn over of mayors in Utah County during this last election that we wanted the new mayors to get their feet under them before we ratified the action," said Mayor Lewis P. Marchant, Kamas, who was also selected as the new Chair of the Council. Marchant added that he expects the ratification to take place in the March Executive Council meeting.
Jackson has worked for Mountainland for 13 years and is currently the Planning Director. He has over 20 years of government experience having worked for Lindon City and Clark County, Nevada prior to working for Mountainland. Jackson is a certified planner and holds a Master’s in Geography and a Master’s of Public Administration from Brigham Young University.
"Not only is Andrew highly skilled in the administration of the agency, he has a great knowledge of the local communities that make up the Association. We look forward to great things from MAG," Marchant said.
